children aged from 3 to 5 years
Eight years ago, I enrolled in a postgraduate course as an Early Childhood Teacher. I remember my lecturer saying to me "As a Kindergarten Teacher, we are creating a child's memory about their most precious stage of their life, CHILDHOOD.'' Since then, I have been passionate about teaching young children and enjoy working with them to explore the wonders of the world around us.
My teaching career started as a Mandarin-English translator, working in several primary schools to support primary school aged immigrants settling into their new learning environments. Meanwhile, I studied with RMIT and obtained my teaching qualification in 2010. I am currently a registered Early Childhood Teacher (0 - 8 years old) and look forward pursuing a higher degree in Child Psychology in the future.
I have profound and continuous partnership with Journey and Journey centres. I have taught at two Journey Kindergarten rooms in the past 7 years, and I am now teaching at Journey Alphington.
My goal here is to develop and implement a Kinder program rich in intentional teaching and sustained shared thinking interactions. My teaching philosophy in based on the belief that 'children are active contributors to their own experiences, interactions, learning and development'. (VEYLF) I believe children learn and develop best when they are empowered as active agents in their own learning. Thus, my practice aims to inspire learning and instill skills of enquiry where children can discover the world around them through their own agency and motivation.
The Kinder Room caters for children aged from 3 to 5 years of age, the key age for kindergarten and preparation for school. In this age group, children’s identities, knowledge, understandings, capacities, skills and relationships change.
Our Kindergarten team consists of registered bachelor trained Kindergarten Teachers and diploma qualified educators who are responsible for integrating the requirements of the Victoria Early Years Learning and Development Framework into our learning approaches and ensure your child's learning outcomes are achieved and support their transition to school with confidence and skills.
As Journey professionals, our room educators undergo professional training and collaborate with other professionals to ensure we have a great knowledge and ensure the best learning environments are created for our children.
Journey Alphington offers a kindergarten program for 3 year old children as well as a funded kindergarten program for 4 year olds. A minimum of 15 hours of kindergarten will be offered per week in the school terms (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) in the year before your child is due to go school.
Our qualified Early Childhood Kindergarten Teachers plan and implement a kindergarten program and learning environment that is designed to:
Foster the development of children’s socio-emotional, physical and intellectual needs, which enables significant growth in knowledge and understanding;
focus on individual learning ability and needs through rich intentional and spontaneous learning activities and interactions.
Enhance children’s literacy and numeracy development;
Provide children the skills to manage change and develop new relationships
Encourage self help skills, independence and resilience
Inspire a lifelong love of learning
Our Educators provide children with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve their best when undergoing the transition to school. We support both children and parents during this transition and provide parents with a transition statement at the end of the year.
We believe communication is the most important tool to develop and maintain strong and personalised relationships between our Educators and families. We use a wide range of methods to communicate within the room, such as conversations, telephone calls and our online child portfolio program, Story Park. Bush Kinder Excursions
Kindergarten offers our 4 year old group the opportunity to take part in Bush Kinder once a week by going on an excursion to the local Darebin Parklands.
It is inspired by the European concept of “Nature Kindergartens” where the environment is used as the third teacher. This program not only extends the children’s learning about nature, but also deepens their connection to the community as well helps building their resilience.
We would love you to visit our Kindergarten Room, meet our Kindergarten Teacher and discuss how we can work with you to meet the needs of you and your child.
